Top 5 Attractions In Gatlinburg Area Fall 2015

Fall is a great time to visit the Pigeon Forge/Sevierville/Gatlinburg area. The leaves are changing – which makes for such a beautiful site to see – and the temperatures are a little cooler. We love spending time there all throughout the year, but find that fall is our favorite!

Having had the chance to stay at Margaritaville Island Hotel (read about that here) last month, we wanted to share what we feel are some great attractions. With so many fun things to see and do in the area, below are our picks for the top 5 attractions. I don’t have them in any particular order.

This theme park is so relaxing and entertaining. A wide variety of rides for kids of all ages, spectacular shows, great restaurants to dine at, gift shops, live music and skilled workers showing off their talents of creating beautiful art pieces. It is nice to just stroll through the park and take in all that fall offers, and plenty of places to snap photos with all of the fall decorations. Plus, during the month of October, the Natl Southern Gospel & Harvest Celebration is taking place at the park. Click here for more details on Dollywood.

Ober Gatlinburg:

To reach Ober Gatlinburg, you can either drive or ride up on the Aerial Tramway from downtown Gatlinburg. We have done both and enjoy them equally. If you take the tram, you will get an awesome view from high above the Smoky Mountains and the towns below while sitting in a glassed-in cable car. It is a little over a 2-mile ride up to the Amusement Park & Ski Area. We love snapping pictures and taking in the view from this location! It is simply incredible!! There are so many things to see and do on arrival. Shopping, dining, skiing (during winter), ski mountain coaster, wildlife, indoor ice skating (year round) and much more to enjoy. Get more details on Ober Gatlinburg by visiting their website.

The Great Smoky Mountain Wheel:

This is a newer attraction in the area and looks like a blast! Located at The Island in Pigeon Forge, take a spin on this 200 foot-tall wheel that offers comfortable seating in an all-glassed gondola. You will get an outstanding view of the Smoky Mountains while on this attraction. We did not have a chance to ride, but hope to do so in the future. To learn more, check out this attraction here.

This is a great place for the whole family to enjoy hands-on activities and educational displays. With over 35,000 square feet of what WonderWorks calls “edu-tainment,” this location combines education and entertainment with over 100 hands on exhibits that will challenge your mind. Awesome! We have had a chance to visit in the past and loved it so much. Click here for more details on WonderWorks.

Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies:

In our opinion, this is the best aquarium we have ever visited. You will have a chance to see so many different varieties of fish, sea creatures and more! Seeing the sharks swimming in their tank as you travel on a moving 340-foot long glidepath is just so neat. As you wind your way through an underwater tunnel, take in the beauty of fish and sharks. Another favorite of mine are the penguins, as I love seeing them interact with each other!! So cute! For more information on Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, click here.
