Snowball Cookies Recipe

It was time to get started on baking Christmas cookies on Saturday afternoon (December 5, 2015), and I began with Snowball Cookies. This has been a cookie that I have enjoyed since I was little, and I continue to make them for my family. It is one of my son’s favorites, and he always wonders why I don’t make them all year long!! I probably should, as they are so EASY to make, but they are a tradition for Christmastime only for us. πŸ™‚

This recipe doesn’t make a lot, and if there are any left over after we all enjoy some, I usually freeze the remainder. Most likely, I will have toΒ  make a few more batches though, if I want to have them for Christmas Eve.

Snowball Cookies Recipe
Prep time:
Cook time:
Total time:
Serves: 3 dozen
Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup butter (I’ve used both salted and unsalted Land O Lakes Butter, and they both work well.)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 8 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips (I usually add more than this. It is up to you!)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In mixer, beat softened butter on low speed until creamy.
  3. Mix in sugar and vanilla until blended well.
  4. Add egg and mix.
  5. In separate bowl, mix flour and salt together and then blend in with batter slowly.
  6. Mix in chocolate chips to batter by hand.
  7. Use a small spoon to get batter and roll in a ball with your hands.
  8. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. These don’t need a lot of space between them, as they will not spread. This is a very dense cookie.
  9. Cook for about 15-18 mins. depending on your oven.
  10. Put powdered sugar in a clean bowl.
  11. Remove cookie from cookie sheet and roll into powdered sugar and place on wire rack to cool. This is a great job for your kids. My son actually loves doing this part! Just be careful, as the cookies will be hot. Also, I like to put a clean cookie sheet under the rack because the powdered sugar will fall off the cookies a little.
  12. Allow to cool and then eat them up! πŸ™‚
