During the holidays, things got hectic, and I noticed that items were just thrown in cabinets, cupboards and drawers that they shouldn’t be in. It was a good time to clean out those places and get rid of expired items and to organize the shelves better. Digging deep into the space, I found items that I forgot were even in there. 🙂 I moved things to the front in my pantry cabinet that needed to be eaten up soon, so that my family and I will know that they are there. And, I found items like old spatulas, etc. that I don’t really use, and these were put in the Goodwill pile.
Also, it was time to tackle the refrigerator and freezer while in the kitchen. I took things out, one shelf at a time. Wiped down the area and then put the containers back in. Not sure if this pertains to you, but for me, I found that it was a great time to get rid of items that are not used often and may have expired, like mayonnaise, ketchup, etc.
So, I was thrilled to get new pots and pans for Christmas. It is a Revere set (pictured above), and I had not purchased or received any new ones since my wedding, and that was years ago – over 20 years. I am not big on jewelry for a gift, that’s ok if you are, but for me new pans, dishes, etc., it’s a real treat! I get very excited by new kitchen items, as I love to bake and cook for my family! It definitely puts a smile on my face to know that they enjoy what I have created. So, when I opened up these beauties, I was HAPPY! I also got a new slow cooker, and I can’t wait to try that out. I am so ready to try some new recipes this coming year. Also, to get back to making some things I haven’t made in ages, like roast beef, carrots & potatoes! Simple and yummy! With these new goodies, came the question – where do I put them? So, I made space in my nicely cleaned cupboards.
With those more organized, I delved into the utility drawer that has collected so many odd items. Again, found some things I didn’t know I even had, and placed some things I won’t need in the donation area. Oh, and all of the little twisty ties and rubber bands were gathered up together to be used later. I don’t know how they got scattered around so much! 🙂
Our medicines and vitamins are stored in a cabinet in our kitchen too, and it was a really appropriate time to clean that out. After checking labels, I kept what was still good, and then I put aside the out of date items.
Afterwards, I had that nice feeling of accomplishment with my kitchen totally cleaned and organized, and knowing that I am moving towards getting my home ready for the new year, that makes me VERY, VERY happy! 🙂
