5 Ways To Help Save Money In 2016

With this new year underway, I have been trying to pay more attention to my spending and staying on a budget. If you are like me, you get so busy with your daily life that you just grab items you need, at the time you are at the store. Sometimes paying no mind to what the cost is because you just need it, and you don’t feel like stopping at another store. Well, I am trying to work on that! Below are some ideas that are helping me, and maybe they can help you as well. Happy shopping!

I have set up a spreadsheet to keep track of my daily spending with a detailing of what the money was spent on. This way I will be able to see where every penny is going. I used to be very diligent in doing this, but have gotten out of the habit over the past few years. And, that is just what it is – a habit. I am working hard to keep this up!

Searching the internet for a store’s sales flyers is a good way that I have been comparing prices on items that I normally buy. I also like the fact that you can price match at some stores too, and that is a great way to minimize the number of stores that I need to get to in a week.

There are so many great sites on the internet for grabbing coupons. I like to use coupons.com and some others. I have been looking out for more sites that will be of good use to me.

Wholesale Clubs:

I shop at both BJ’s Wholesale Club and Sam’s Club. I find that I can purchase a bigger amount of the items that we use often, at a lower price. Although, this year, I may only keep one of the memberships, as I don’t have time to visit both regularly. You will find laundry detergent, toilet paper, soup, meat, cheese, bread and yogurt on my list for these locations. The only hard part, is finding a place to put them in my small house when I get home. 🙂 Thankfully, my son likes to help keep my shelves organized, and he helps me put the groceries away.

Shopping List:

And, that brings me to the last topic – staying on top of what you need. As I get close to running out of an item, I quickly put it on my shopping list. That means keeping up on what is in my cabinets, helps me have a chance to hopefully find an item on sale, instead of purchasing it at full price because it is needed. For instance, I noticed that BJ’s had garbage bags on sale in December, but thought I had enough. Well, I got home and realized I should have purchased them! Ugh!

To finish this article off, I would love to hear from you and your ideas. Let me know if you have any suggestions on ways to help me lower my spending. Some of this is just pure common sense, but putting in the effort is the hard part. The more I can save though, the better I feel! Thanks and have a great day!
