Renovation Project 2016: Part 11

Back to the house project on February 18, 2016, and we got a lot of things accomplished on that day and Friday, February 19th! Yes! Refreshing feeling to get some of the smaller projects done. It really is the little things that make me happy. 🙂

We picked out a new front door at Lowe’s Home Improvement. The old one had been damaged pretty badly from the previous owner’s dog. The installation of the new door went pretty smoothly. I am really glad that I made that decision. I was close to just keeping the old one, but this makes the front of the house look so much nicer. While along the lines of doors, we went through and marked door trim that needed to be replaced. Some window sills had to be remade too. The master bedroom door was the only interior door that I chose to replace too. Again, the dog that the other owner had really liked to scratch up things. I guess he missed his owners when they were gone. We will have to go back and replace the door trim and master bedroom door after the flooring is all finished being installed.

Lowe’s had delivered the microwave when they brought the flooring a few days prior, and we had that installed above the stove. There had only been a vent there previously, and we chose to take that down and put a microwave in its place. Going with Whirlpool appliances, as we have them in our house and have found that they work beautifully for us. So, it was kind of a no-brainer to select them for this renovation project. I like those easy decisions. Plus, it just so happened that they were on sale when we were ready to order them. Bonus!!! Also in the kitchen, the finishing touches were done on the newly constructed light fixture. Now we have so much bright light in the kitchen, and it is on a dimmer switch, which is just awesome! I like a lot of light when I am cooking, baking and doing the dishes.

A brand new toilet was placed in the master bathroom. My criteria for a toilet is a self closing lid, and I got just that! I mean, I grit my teeth at the sound of a falling toilet seat. You know what I mean?!! Hehehe! The walls were patched and mudded in this room as well. After that dries, I will sand it off. We also picked out a new light fixture for the bathroom and that had been attached to the wall.

So much has been completed, and since we are up to the 11th part of this renovation, I thought I would go ahead and add the links for the articles one through ten. Thanks so much for checking it out, and I hope you enjoy reading. We love hearing your comments too, and you can share them with us on Facebook (, Twitter ( and Pinterest ( 🙂
