We all get into ruts. For me, I do like a daily routine. But, when I start to feel like escaping the every day duties, I have some things that are my go-to ideas. Remember what it was like to play hooky when you were in school? I only did that a few times, but even as I am in my 40s, I still need those kinds of days. It is fun to have that carefree feeling, and maybe a little kiddish too! Forget all of about your worries, paying your bills, your job and cleaning the house, and just go out and have fun! Take a day or two, or more if you need to, to unwind and relax.
Grab a map and look around your town to see what is near you that looks interesting. I think I could look at the map of the United States for hours dreaming of places to go and see. And, it is fun to plan and think about a fun destination. But, if you need a quick pick-me-up, I think a lot of us forget that there are so many opportunities right outside our doors. Chances are that you may never have noticed a park, store, business to tour, museum, etc. that is near your home. So many times we all just hit the same route when driving, that we don’t take time to get off of the beaten path and find something new to look at! These types of trips will leave you feeling refreshed. Exploring a new area, will help to clear your mind and give you a new perspective on things. I love finding new places to visit, taking pictures and just being with my family. Take time for yourself and your loved ones to create memories to last a lifetime.
Summer is a great time to get out and play. The days are longer and the nights are warm and soothing. Hit up an amusement park and ride on something you never have before, or jump on an old favorite to get you giggling with joy. Another great idea is to head to your local carnivals, festivals, flea markets, etc. It is always fun to grab a corn dog and check out merchandise from people that live near you. It just may spark something that interests you, maybe you will find a new hobby, or something that you would like to start collecting. Pack a cooler and your beach items and spend a day at the beach. The sun and sand have a way of boosting my spirits. Drive-in movies are fun! I haven’t been to one in years. When I think of summer, fishing and boating comes to mind. Here’s another thought, head out on a biking adventure. It is a great way to get some and exercise and have that time with your family.
If you don’t have time to leave your house, get outside with your family and plant new flowers or run through the sprinkler. Look up new recipes to surprise your family with. I have been researching sites to try new things that I think my family will enjoy. Again with the ruts, I make meals that we are all comfortable with and love, but it is fun to add a new dish or dessert to the mix that helps me get excited about cooking.
We all get caught up in reading the news, checking Twitter and looking up friends and family on Facebook. It is great to read all about their experiences, but don’t forget to have your own! It may be something as simple as gathering everyone up to go to a park to roast marshmallows and kick a soccer ball around, watching a minor league baseball game or bigger, like taking a trip to Walt Disney World Resort. Whatever you do…have fun doing it and LIVE in the moment! 🙂
