I just love taking drives – don’t you?!! On Sunday, October 30, 2016, our Pittsburgh Steelers had their bye-week (week 8 of the season), and I felt like getting out of the house. The weather was gorgeous – sunny and in the 80s – and it was nice to just relax and set our course for a destination we had never been to. I notice that when I don’t have to be somewhere at a certain time, I take time to enjoy the ride. I find things along the way that I never noticed before. Day-to-day tasks like running to the grocery store or making deposits at the bank seem to be so tedious, and I just like to get there and get back. So when I have a chance to unwind, I feel great and relaxed.
So, about our destination on that very beautiful day at the end of October…it was to see Yalaha Bakery in Yalaha, Florida. My family has some German in our background, and this bakery and deli makes all German food. So, after reading the great reviews online and seeing that it wasn’t that far from our home, we set out. And, what a great drive it was. Beautiful Florida scenery and lots of farms. I love that. It is just a short trek from the Clermont area and Orlando too. It was a really easy drive – not a lot of traffic – and easy to find, which was great.
Upon pulling into the driveway, the building for the bakery was just as I had imagined it would be – very German/Bavarian style. Many beautiful paintings on the exterior and that wonderful cottage feel. So sweet!!! We entered inside to take a peek at the goodies and found so many different items to choose from. We didn’t plan on eating lunch. We just wanted to try some of the desserts. Although, we said that we will definitely have to return to try some of their sandwiches and more as they looked delicious!! After taking a number at the door, we browsed the glass enclosed display of sweet treats and made our selection. The prices were very reasonable as well, especially for the size of their desserts. There was seating inside and out. We decided to sit outside since it was such a beautiful day. Our group chose to share a few items so that we could sample as many goodies as possible. So, we picked a piece of German Apple Pie, Apple Streusel, Carrot Cake Bar and one other treat that I can’t remember the name of. Out of our selections, our favorite was the Apple Streusel. So amazingly YUMMY! I will get that again next time. 🙂
After sitting, eating and chatting, we all agreed that this was a place we would absolutely come back to. Something we would recommend to others, and I love that everything is made from scratch. Plus, they have been in business for over 20 years, have live entertainment on certain days and their location is so clean (that is a huge plus for me!). So great! We were told that it is usually very busy and best to come as early in the day as you can. As we were almost ready to leave, we decided to run back in and grab some pretzels. They have a nice selection of breads and pretzels, and we wanted to take some home for later (by the way these were awesome too!). We had a nice leisurely drive back, and I was so thankful to be able to spend time like this with my family. Great day!
