Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is a really great place to stay with your family. As I have mentioned before, this resort is at the top of our list of places to stay on-site at Walt Disney World Resort. You can read about my latest stay at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge here. Having stayed at this resort multiple times, I could easily see how you could just check in for a week and never leave. But, and it is a big but, there is so much to see and do at Walt Disney World Resort’s theme parks and water parks. 🙂 There are two locations to stay at this resort. The main lodge – Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – is also referred to as Jambo House. The second is Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village. They are really close in proximity, and both are wonderful!
I also wanted to say Happy Birthday to the resort, as it celebrated its 16th birthday yesterday! Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge officially opened its doors to guests on April 16, 2001. So great!
We have found 5 fun things to do at this resort, and you can check out the list below.
Fun things to do with your family at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
1. Watching the animals
The animals, in my opinion, are the best reason to stay at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. It is so unique! You should try to get a savanna view room when staying, because there is nothing greater than sitting out on your deck to watch the animals – day and night! I always feel so relaxed after staying at this resort, and it is all because of the over 30 species of African wildlife, including zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, kudu and more! They will absolutely entertain everyone from the youngest to oldest in your family – I guarantee it! 🙂
There are two, big pools to choose from at both Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. Both are super clean and comfortable! Disney’s pools truly are amazing, and the ones at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge are good examples. I think I would pick the pool area at Kidani Village over Jambo House, only because of the extra fun water features for kids to enjoy there. It is just a short walk to Kidani Village if you are staying at Jambo House. Our son has never really liked swimming, but my husband and I do enjoy it. You could easily spend hours enjoying the pools with your little ones.
There are a couple of great choices of restaurants that are located at Jambo House. Our favorite is Boma – Flavors of Africa. On different trips, we have eaten at this restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Both times we were very satisfied with our meal and the selection of food. I have to admit that we are not big on all-you-can eat meals, but this restaurant offers some really interesting and good food, and we can’t wait to get back and enjoy it again. We think that The Mara is a great counter service restaurant as well, and have many times just driven over to it to have the turkey sandwich and couscous. YUMMY!
One tip I would add here is that when choosing whether to stay at Kidani Village or Jambo House, being that Kidani Village doesn’t have a restaurant, I usually pick Jambo House. As I mentioned above, it is a really short walk from Kidani Village to Jambo House, but when you are pressed for time, it is nice to just grab an elevator to get to the restaurants.
4. Activities for the kids
Lots of great things for the little ones in your family to enjoy at this resort. They can check out Pumbaa’s Fun and Games Arcade, Hakuna Matata Playground and Simba’s Cubhouse. There are fun musical parties and a parade in the lobby of Jambo House, cast members are on hand to share information about their homeland and so much more. Everyone in the family will enjoy the campfire and African Folktales too just outside of Jambo House overlooking the Arusha Savanna.
5. Enjoying the BEAUTIFUL resort
Overall, this resort is just absolutely beautiful with its African-inspired decor. I love wandering around the lobby at Jambo House and enjoying the really neat artifacts. There are some great places to just sit and relax. The spot by the fireplace in the lobby of Jambo House is really nice. If you walk down the halls, you can stop and see what the animals are up to. It is just really magnificent!! Entertainment is everywhere, and the whole feel of this resort is relaxing.
