6 Things To Do At Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party At Walt Disney World Resort

I can’t believe that the first Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) for 2017 in Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort is happening at the end of this month! Wow! This year is flying by. I feel like the last few years have gone by so quickly…time is going so fast. The way to be sure and “stop” time a little, is by scheduling time to have fun with your family. And, making plans to take everyone to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a great way to do this.

I was thinking the other night about the first time that we ever experienced Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. I had to go back and look at my really old photos. I had remembered that my son was very little, and we all had so much FUN! I found some pictures, and the date was October 20, 2004. Our son Clayton III would have been 6 1/2 years old. It doesn’t seem like it was that long ago! He is 19 1/2 years old now! Again, with my thought from above…time is going by way too fast. Just gotta keep making good memories every day! 🙂

I like to have a little plan in place when we go to MNSSHP, because I found early on in our visits, we had so much fun, but didn’t get to everything we had wanted to. So, be sure and figure out what things you want to see and do ahead of time (or atleast when you get to Magic Kingdom). One great thing about the party nights are that they officially begin at 7:00 p.m. and end at midnight, but Disney allows party guests to arrive at 4:00 p.m. Obviously, if you are an Annual Passholder, you can arrive at any time. It is nice to get there ahead of time to get your bearings and get your plan of attack in order. You may even want to hang out and rest before you hit the ground running!

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party

Below I have posted 6 things that I feel are important to do during the party night.

1. Mickey’s “Boo-to-You” Halloween Parade

Ok, this is my absolute favorite thing about Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, and my favorite parade overall! Maybe it is nostalgia, or that the music for this parade is just so darn catchy!!! I love it! The Headless Horseman begins the festivities – which is truly AWESOME – followed by a collection of frightening floats that feature Disney Characters in Halloween costumes. The Headless Horseman always gives me chills! So incredible. I also love those gravedigger shovels that spark. Wow! Just amazing! Remember…it’s not so very scary! Boo to YOU! This parade will take place two times during the party night. I like to get to the first one, so that if I miss anything, I can go back to watch it again. If you stay for the whole time, the second parade might have less viewers, as it is getting later into the night and a lot of guests with little kids have left. Have you seen this parade? What is your favorite part?

2. Happy HalloWishes Fireworks

Disney Villains including Maleficent, Ursula, Cruella de Vil, Jafar and more light up the night with fireworks and a wicked version of melodies from Disney’s past that echo through the night behind Cinderella Castle.

In details from Disney, Happy HalloWishes includes a Disney soundtrack of creepy classics including:

“Grim Grinning Ghosts,” from the Haunted Mansion attraction
“Poor Unfortunate Souls,” from The Little Mermaid
“Never Smile at a Crocodile,“ from Peter Pan
“The Skeleton Dance,” from Silly Symphony – The Skeleton Dance
“Who’s Afraid of the Big, Bad Wolf?” from The Three Little Pigs
“Oogie Boogie’s Song,” from The Nightmare Before Christmas
“Night on Bald Mountain,” from Fantasia

I really enjoy seeing this fireworks show! This only takes place one time during the night.

3. Trick-or-Treating

One of the things that I have always enjoyed is trick-or-treating around Magic Kingdom during the party. There are so many locations around the park to grab some treats. I mean, as an adult, it is a BLAST! 🙂 And, then getting to snack on your candy while walking around the park is so much fun! Sugar rush!! Hehehe! The kids love it too, and you can feel rest assured that all of the treats are safe for them to eat. YES!!!

4. Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular

The mischievous Sanderson Sisters from Disney’s Hocus Pocus return to the mortal world to throw a Halloween party. I haven’t actually watched this show yet, as it began in 2015 and we haven’t attended a party since October 2013. But, I have heard so many great things about it, and plan on watching it this year. I have read that the performance takes place three times during MNSSHP! Wow! That gives you a lot of opportunity to see it!

5. The Haunted Mansion

This attraction is one of my favorites, but it is extra special on a party night! First of all, the ride fits in with Halloween anyway, and secondly Lady Renata and Madame Carlotta sit outside of the ride and chat with guests who are waiting. MNSSHP is the only time this takes place. So neat. Of course, there are so many other rides that are open during the event, but this one is a must!

6. Meet and greet Disney characters

It is really fun to see the Disney characters during the party night, especially because there are some rare ones that are not available on a regular day. This is an awesome treat, and some are in Halloween costumes too. You and your family get a chance to take pictures with them. Very cool indeed!!! One of our favorites to see are The Seven Dwarfs. I found this old pic from the first party we went to of my son with the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. Such a cutie! Great memories!

The first party night for this year is on August 25th, and the final event is November 1st. Let me know if you and your family have a chance to be at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party this year. I would love to hear from you about it! 🙂
