It truly is beginning to feel like Christmas with all of the holiday decorations up at the Disney parks. We were thrilled to be able to take a walk around Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World Resort on Thursday, November 9, 2017, to see all of the new Christmas decorations (and some that are familiar from past years). Plus, there is an exciting new experience called Sunset Seasons Greetings at this theme park! It is absolutely a great time to visit Hollywood Studios during their Flurry of Fun event!
Disney retired their ever-so-popular Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights in 2015 after 20 years of brightening guest’s lives, and I for one was very sad to see it end! Some tears were shed. We had so many wonderful family memories of seeing it at the park. It was definitely a must-see on our list for many years because it was so uplifting and magical! You can read more about The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights here, and see some of our video footage too. I was really happy that they added “Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!” last year, and that helped to appease all of us a little as we missed it soooo much! Now, this year, I was SUPER pleased with another great addition! We had the opportunity to enjoy the new Sunset Seasons Greetings projection show.
One thing I really think is great about the Sunset Seasons Greetings show – and it is similar to The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights – is that this experience runs continuously throughout the night. There are four different displays with this new holiday experience that features spectacular projections of Mickey, Minnie, Olaf and other beloved Disney characters as they share their favorite Christmas stories on Sunset Boulevard. The lights along the boulevard twinkle with stunning holiday decorations and “snow” (Disney snow is the best!) falls down on you as you stand and watch. There are a couple of billboards that have been installed to watch the quick videos and then the Hollywood Tower Hotel is transformed into scenes of the holiday season with fun music playing. It really does get you into the Christmas spirit, and is fun for everyone in the family to enjoy.
We were there on the first official day that all of the holiday festivities began, and it wasn’t that crowded. YAY!!! We only stayed about an hour, and we will have to get back again soon to watch “Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!”, as we were not able to be there for a long period of time. Can’t wait to see that again in person. We watched it last year (you can see our video of “Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!” here), but we weren’t in a good viewing spot. So, my recommendation is to be in the center, and not on the sides. 🙂
The new decorations around Echo Lake are pretty neat too! I liked that their Christmas tree was centered in the water of Echo Lake instead of outside of the park. Even Dinosaur Gertie looked pretty cute too as she was dressed in her Christmas attire. She’s wearing a fun, dino-sized Santa hat and holding onto a big ornament in her mouth. I particularly LOVED the retro decorations around the lake. They have a 60s era look, and it brings you back to the good, old-fashioned family Christmases! 🙂 Wonderful!!
All in all, I am happy with all of the holiday offerings at Disney’s Hollywood Studios now! I do still crave The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights, but the changes are really GOOD!!! I hope that you and your family have a chance to experience all of the fun there this year! To see all of the details on what Walt Disney World Resort has to offer this holiday season, click here. Thanks for reading and Merry Christmas!
Check out more of our photos taken at the park, plus we have some video coverage too – thanks to my son! 🙂
