It doesn’t take much for me to get the renovation bug. How about you??? I truly love creating new spaces. Although I am so comfortable in our latest home that we totally made our own (you can see my renovation articles here), it is an itch that I am getting more and more in the last few months.
As I thought about writing this article, it had me thinking of just how many projects that my husband and I have done together since getting married 25 years ago. We have purchased homes, rented, had vacation rentals and built from scratch. Looking back, it wasn’t something we really set out to do, but we had so much fun working on every single one of them that we have continued to do it. So many great memories!
*2 mobile homes that we lived in
*2 condo vacation rental units
*1 townhouse that we lived in
*3 foreclosed homes that have lived in
*1 3,000+ square foot home that we built and lived in
*built about 15 cabins that were vacation rentals or we sold
Below I have listed the 4 signs that give me a clue that I really have the renovation bug!
1. Renovation on the brain
Lately, I have had renovation on my brain even more than usual. It begins from the time I wake up until I go to bed! And, I am usually dreaming about it as well! Hehehehe! 🙂
2. Watching renovations shows
In my free time, I love to tune in to watch renovation shows. Some of my favorites are Flip or Flop, Flip or Flop Vegas and more.
Let’s just say that when we are not watching one of our favorite sports teams, I have HGTV or the DIY channel on. I really can’t get enough of watching the process of taking something that is out-of-date or run-down, and making improvements so that it looks beautiful again. It gets me excited to work on a new project. So fun!
3. Magazines and Pinterest
I also love going through magazine articles and Pinterest in search of design ideas. I enjoy seeing other people’s creativity and thoughts on how to decorate a home.
4. Shopping at home improvement stores
When I feel like spending time at Lowe’s Home Improvement, I know I got it bad! 🙂 Especially because I usually get burned out after a big project and don’t even want to step foot in this store. So, when I find myself wanting to hang out in the paint chip section, kitchen area and more, it is a sign that I have that renovation bug again!
Now, how to cure this renovation bug is to simply take on a new project! Whether big or small, it may fulfill that need for change. We recently updated our guest bathroom. When we originally renovated our home about 2 years ago, we chose to not change out the mirror, sink and toilet. So, earlier this year I just felt it was time to do so. We had a pedestal sink that didn’t have enough storage for our son’s needs. So I chose a new cabinet/sink combination, purchased the same toilet that we had used for our master bathroom and then decided on a cabinet/mirror combo for even more storage. It turned out great and works for the small space we have.
Sometimes painting a room and changing out the decor cures my renovation bug. It is an inexpensive way to update your home. I also love spending time at garage sales and thrift stores. I am always looking for furniture or decorations that I can transform into something special for my home.
Hopefully, we will be able to do a bigger project in the near future. But for now, I will just continue to soak up as much as I can with TV shows and more. It really is great way to learn new techniques and gain knowledge.
